"Use Add-On Domains to Optimize Your Web Hosting Space "
by Herman Drost

=================================================================

Editor's Note:

If you are planning to submit your website[s] to certain search
engines you should be aware, that some check your IP# of your
website. Some of the information below will work against this,
as the "added on websites" will SHARE the same IP#. Please be
aware of this as you plan promotion of your website[s].

Editor FREEBMIC, David Belton

Is it possible to host two or more sites with two or more
domains on the same hosting account? You may want to
register and market another domain name but don't want to
pay for another hosting account. The best solution is to
create an add-on domain.

What is an add-on domain?

An add-on domain is a new domain that is added on top of
your main domain. It creates a sub directory within your
main web hosting directory but can show a different web
site. The add-on domain collects the information from the
sub domain directory using the same space and bandwidth as
your main account, however it won't have its own cpanel
(web hosting manager).

Add-on domain benefits.

1. Create multiple domains/websites on the same web hosting
account.

2. Save money and web space by using one hosting account
instead of several hosting accounts.

3. The add-on domain shares all the same resources (disk space,
bandwidth...) with your main site.

4. The add-on domain has its own FTP manager, site stats,
cgi-bin which is created automatically.

5. Upload all pages, images, scripts, forums etc to your
add-on domain directory.

6. Access your add-on domain using several web site addresses
i.e.
http://www.SiteB.com,
http://www.SiteB.SiteA.com
http://www.SiteA.com/SiteB

7. Promote several web sites within one hosting account with
their own set of keywords.

How to create an add-on domain.

1. Register your new add-on domain with a domain name
registrar.

2. Point the DNS (domain name sever) information
of your new add-on domain to the same DNS of your web host.

3. Allow 24-48 hours for the DNS to propagate over the Net
before uploading your files.

4. Log in to your cpanel (web hosting manager) and scroll
to add-on domains.

5. Fill in these three fields:

New Domain Name: SiteB.com (Do not put any http:// or www)
Username/directory/subdomain

Name: SiteB (Enter 'SiteB ' by
itself. Do not put any '.com' or 'www')

Password: 12345
(Enter any password you wish.)

6. Click the 'Add Domain' button. It takes a couple of
minutes for the system to set-up an add-on domain name.

7. Once it completes, your add-on domain name will be ready.
You can then log into your account and you should see a sub
folder called /SiteB inside of your public_html folder.
Simply upload index pages, images and any other information
there.

Here is an example of how to create an add-on domain:

Let's say you primary domain is http://www.SiteA.com
You add an add-on domain named: http://www.SiteB.com
through the cpanel.

Now you can access it via:

http://www.SiteB.com or
http://www.SiteB.SiteA.com/ or
http://www.SiteA.com/SiteB/

You can now set-up email for the add-on domain as if it was
a separate site i.e. bubba@SiteB.com with mail servers as
mail.SiteB.com

Tip: When searching for a web hosting service, be sure to
check if they allow add-on domains. This will give you far
more flexibility to utilize your web hosting space should
you need to create add-on domains in the future.

Be sure to check how much web space you have left for your
main hosting account before you create an add-on domain.
Add-on domains utilize the same web space as your main
hosting account.

"The Anatomy of Hype"
by Marcia Yudkin

================================================================

Editor's Note:

Writing ad copy for a product or service is very much dependent
on your target market. Likewise the amount or lack of "hype"
you use to "sell it" will also depend on what your target market
will or will not accept. Keep in mind "selling" is a SCIENCE -
not an "art". There are proven concepts that work and do not
work. Please keep these factors in mind as you investigate
how to "Sell" online.

David Belton, Editor, FREEBIMC

On a copywriting board I frequent, someone expressed
bafflement that several respected marketers criticized the
tone of a sales page he wrote. "Why did they apologize to
their subscribers while linking to my pitch? This approach
sells," he said.

Hype was the problem. If you use the following tactics,
many educated shoppers cringe and go elsewhere:

Overblown claims. "If You Can Write Your Name, You Can
Write a Book in 30 Days - Guaranteed!"

Overexcited tone. Lots of exclamation points, phrases in
bold capital letters with underlining and a drumbeat of
emphasis. "Programmers poured out their TOP-SECRET
strategies that you, too, can use to earn a GATES-LIKE
FORTUNE in the software business!!" "Take out your credit
card and order RIGHT NOW!"

Unsupported and extreme superlatives. "The most important
new product launch, ever."

Adjectives and adverbs you would not encounter from Exxon
or IBM. "Mind-blowing" "Exclusive" "Huge" "Incredible"
"Wildly" "Literally" (necessary to distinguish truth from
hoopla).

Exaggerations. "They've made millions under the radar."
(When most haven't made that sum and the "secrecy" is just
not having been asked.)

Sounds impressive but untrue. Calling someone a best
selling author who has not appeared on a recognized best
seller list.

Lack of qualifiers. Statements that should include a bit
of backpedaling but don't. It's really not "all," "only,"
"never," "sure-fire" or "will."

Marketers who favor a style full of hype argue that the
numbers prove these techniques succeed, whatever the
audience. When they tone down the pitch, sales drop. When
they toss decorum to the winds and reinsert that hammering
excitement and the fervid embellishments, sales return to
previous levels. Case closed, they say.

Assuming their numbers are valid, this argument does have a
point, but one of limited relevance to many situations.
Hype may sell, but it may also undercut other business
goals, in these ways:

Reputation. In whose eyes do you want credibility? Use
this tone and you can expect snickering rather than respect
from established journalists, academics, Fortune 500
companies, most people with postgraduate degrees and
colleagues who use any of those groups as their benchmark
of respectability.

Partnerships and opportunities. If you're aiming at joint
ventures with banks, universities, community organizations,
trade associations and the like, hype counts very heavily
against you. You may also endanger your chances of getting
a contract from a major publisher if that's among your
goals.

Trust. Are you aiming at a one-time sale or a long-term
customer? Hype works better in the former situation,
especially where a buyer believes they can obtain a refund
if the purchase doesn't live up to the promises.

Staying out of legal trouble. Some of the techniques
listed above either flirt with deception or cross the line
to lies. The other day I read through a Federal Trade
Commission judgment against an Internet marketer for
deceptive marketing and believe me, this is wrath you do
not want to bring down upon yourself! Make sure you have a
nitpicky lawyer to vet your copy if you favor a hyped
style.

Please note that it's possible to use a hard-hitting,
dramatic direct marketing style with descriptive bullet
points, calls to action and so on in connection with
entirely truthful and completely respectable copy.

Hype does sell. But that's far from settling the issue of
whether or not you should use it.

"REMOVING OBSTACLES TO SALėS"
by Charlie Cook

================================================================

During the summer Olympics I watched the men's and women's
hurdles. I'm always impressed by these athletes' ability to
run at full speed and leap the hurdles without breaking
stride.

But each time I watch this track event, I have the same
reaction. If they just went out on the track and removed
those barriers, it would be a heck of lot easier to get
around the track. The athletes could run faster, more
smoothly and wouldn't risk falling (as the accomplished
Flo Joyner did).

If you are struggling to attract clients, you may feel like
you're running the hurdles. Obstacles like limited
promotional budgets, ads that don't sell, web sites that
don't generate leads, prospects that aren't ready to buy or
who think your prices are too high, all get between
prospects and the sale.

Do you find yourself struggling to overcome hurdles to
getting the sale?

You can clear the track of the hurdles that are getting
between you and potential clients once and for all and
create a clear path for prospects to become clients. If your
target market knew you and how you could help them,
understood the value of your services and contacted you when
they were ready to buy you'd be rolling in revenue.

Is this how your business works?

Are you getting a steady stream of calls and new clients?

What can you do to remove these obstacles and increase your
salės?

If you haven't already identified your marketing obstacles,
start by doing so. The first step is to list them. Once you
know what are your biggest obstacles to increasing salės,
you can look for ways to get rid of them. (If you have other
staff involved in salės, get their input too.)

Below are two common obstacles to salės. For each I've
included some simple strategies for removing these
obstacles. Once you understand that marketing obstacles
aren't permanent you'll discover that you can remove more
and more impediments and clear the way for increased salės.

Lack of Awareness

You're just starting your business. No one has heard of you,
and, given your lack of revenue you have little to invest
in advertising. What do you do?

Use lead generation strategies that are frėė or almost frėė.
During a severe downturn in the economy, a local financial
services firm offered a series of workshops for frėė to
private investors. Within a year the firm grew their assets
under management from $5.5 million to $15 million.

Using an ezine I sent to librarians and online editors, I
grew the value of a web site about search engines to almost
a million dollars, without spending a dime on advertising.

This strategy works equally well for established companies.
Les Schwab Tire Centers fixes flats for frėė, giving away
over $10 million in repairs each year. Building goodwill
with giveaways like this and an unusual dedication to
customer service, this chain of 300 tire outlets earned
estimated revenue of $1 billion in 2003.

Lack of Results from Advertising
You're not getting a positive return on your ads, should you
buy more ad space? How much? Where?

In my experience, there are two obstacles to increasing
salės with advertising. Its either the message or the
audience. Both can be fixed and to increase salės.

If you want people to respond to your advertising, get their
attention and prompt them to contact you, write your
marketing message, ads and marketing copy from your
prospect's perspective. Identify and address their concerns.

No matter how good your marketing message is, it won't help
you unless its seen by people who want your products and
services. Even if you do your homework up front, there is no
guarantee your ad will draw salės.

Track each ad campaign and each sale to determine which ads
sell. No matter how good your copy is or how many people see
your ad, if the ad audience doesn't include people who want
your services and are ready to buy, it's the wrong audience.
Drop those ads that bring in meager results and identify
additional advertising opportunities, ones that will be seen
or heard by people who want to buy your products and
services.

Stop wasting your time struggling to jump over marketing
hurdles. Instead, you can identify the obstacles that get in
the way and eliminate them one by one. Make this shift and
you'll increase your salės and be more successful.
