- Hot Tip : "Speed Equals Sales" - PART 2

Did you know the speed at which your website loads, directly
impacts your sales?

Day in and day out I see websites online that are works of
art - that most people will never see.

Testing your website's loading speed is KEY to making money
online - and you must test it with the lowest speed - 28 K -
to ensure compatibility with the majority of North America.

[and the rest of the world too].

In Part 1 previously we are covered how to test your
website's loading speed properly.

Part 2 - We are looking at specific ways to increase speed.

Specific Ways to Increase Your Site Loading speed:
==================================================

On the Internet content is king and people are impatient!
This is the most important thing to remember.

When someone is visiting your site for the first time [and
rarely do people return] they expect to see something almost
immediately. Immediately defined as under 30 seconds.

More than 30 seconds - you will lose the majority of
your visitors. Even if they stay they may have lingering
doubts as to the quality of your products or services because
your site loaded so slowly.

So how do you have a good looking website that satisfies
the most impatient visitor?

Here are some ways to make your webpages and website load
faster. If you are not familiar with HTML, please consult
a search engine for a primer on the topics discussed.

1] Reduce the size and/or quantity of the images on your
website. You should also try changing GIFS to JPGs.

2] Have plain text at the top of your page NOT in a "table"
that will appear immediately and HOLD your prospects
interest while the rest of the site loads.

3] Break your webpage into multiple tables vs one large
table. Single tables will display immediately, whereas
a large table will require all images, and text to load.

4] Display a "low resolution" image FIRST, then use javascript
to load the high quality image after the page loads.

5] Be careful using "dynamically generated" websites using
CGI/PERL scripts. If you receive a lot of traffic your
website loading speed can slow to a crawl OR not load
at all. If your "dynamic webpage software" supports HTML
generation, considering doing this for your main or
high traffic pages.

6] SHTML pages can load far slower than regular pages
even if there are no SSI on the page. The server must scan
each page, and this results in a large reduction in page
loading speed.

7] If you are member of a banner exchange, put these at the
END or bottom of a webpage AND/OR DO NOT enclose these
in a table.

8] Use javascript and/or style settings/sheets to make
your site stand out more, without fancy images.

There is also something else very important to know when
you are optimizing your website's loading speed - how a browser
loads information and displays it to the user.

When someone loads a webpage up to 4 "pipes" of information
can flow at the same time. That can be a webpage and 3 pictures
for example. Until those "pipes" of information are complete,
the other pages and/or images will not begin loading. Bottom
line you must be very aware of what loads and when to convey
the right impression to your visitor.

Although this may sound simple this "technical issue" affects
every website, and webpage on the internet and determines
web site design.

"What E-books Will Sell in 2004?"

Face it. E-books are here to stay. Not only are
they continuing to sell at a phenomenal rate, but there
is no end in site. Revenues were up 30% in 2003 over
the same period in 2002. Compare that to the annual
growth rate of only 5% in traditional print publishing.
Some publishers are reporting an e-book sales increase
of 183% over printed versions of the same books.
E-books are in.

What e-books will sell in 2004? Looking into our
crystal ball, and based on our own successes with
e-books, here are the top ten categories we see a real
need for e-books to fill this year.

1. Alternative Living. Many need guidance on how to
live as a single person, senior citizen, disabled, or
gay. That includes cooking, dating, legalities tips,
and so on. They want info directed to their needs.

2. Money duplication. We need help on how to multiply
our existing money. Now that more people have learned
that a two-income household isn't enough to make it, we
need information on how to leverage what we have left.

3. Home schooling. More people are choosing to keep
their kids out of the environment of public schools,
and even private ones. They need information on how to
effectively educate their kids, right down to how to
have a science fair in the home, how to throw parties
for children, and so on.

4. Pet training. Many people are choosing to make their
best friend a pet. But they don't know which pets are
the best for their living condition and they don't know
how to train their pets. This includes the average dog
lover as well as those interested in exotic animals.

5. Safe sex. We still want it, but we're afraid to have
it. Information on safe sex, alternative approaches to
traditional sex, sexual arrangements, safe and natural
herbs, Viagra alternatives and so on, will do well. Sex
sells. Always will.

6. Anti-aging. It should come as no surprise that
people still want to live forever. The wellness
movement is going to make people rich. Clear
information on how to choose the right anti-aging
product, exercise, or lifestyle will be welcome.

7. Gadget alert. We're fascinated with high-tech toys
but not sure which will work. Guides on how to pick the
right multi-tasking phone, laptop, Dick Tracy radio,
MP3 player, etc, will be a relief to many confused
people. (Including us.)

8. Passion Instruction. People still want to have fun.
Information on how to learn a musical instrument, or a
craft, or any pastime, will continue to do well. This
includes subjects people are fascinated with, such as
tattoos, magic, scrapbooking, pottery, etc.

9. Eating Slim. We want to eat but we don't want to get
fat. Information on safe foods, safe recipes, guides
for eating out without getting fat, new weight-loss
formulas or insights, healthy desserts, will all sell.

10. Home Gardens. People want to know how to improve
their home, create a garden, build on rooms, fix broken
appliances, and so on. Good information on how to be a
home and garden handyman (or handywoman) will sell.

There are 26 categories of e-books that will
always continue to sell well, (get more information at

are sure bets for 2004.

MARKETING SMARTER TO EARN MORE

An accountant once told me that he never met anyone who
didn't want to make 30% more money. Whether you want
a better lifestyle or to take more vacations, buy a fancy
car, spend more time with your family, send your children
to college or to give it all away, you could always use
more money.

If you sell services, your primary limitations on earnings
are your costs and the number of hours in a week. Most
independent professionals are already working well over
40 hours a week and can't work longer hours to increase
earnings. Your goal should be to find ways to work less
and increase your earnings. How can you market smarter
and make more money?

DON'T DISCOUNT YOUR SERVICES
Have you ever heard of a lawyer or carpenter offering a
20% discount on their hourly or daily rate? Every time you
offer a discount or reduce your regular rates, you are
sending a message to prospects that your services really
aren't worth what you're asking.

Once your clients know that your prices are discounted or
negotiable, you will always be fighting a battle to be the
paid full price for your work. Never offer discounts; your
clients will assume that they are expected to pay the asking
price for your services.

OVERCOME OBJECTIONS TO PRICE
Prospects invariably want to know your pricing before they
understand the benefits your products and services provide.
Quoting prices is meaningless until prospects can put the
cost into the context of the results they can expect.

When prospects show concern about your pricing, it's a good
sign. It indicates their interest in buying your services
and a need to understand the value you provide. You could
list all the benefits of your services but if you really
want to make the sale, it's far more effective to let
prospects sell themselves.

A client's perception of value isn't based on how much they
pay, but on whether their expectations will be met and the
benefit they will receive. Don't get stuck on the dollars
you charge per hour. Instead help prospects define the
dollar benefit of your services.

When prospects query you on price, respond by asking
questions to help them identify for themselves the
problem they want solved, the cost of the problem,
the solution they need, and how you can help them.
Prospects buy when they think their expectations will
be met. Let them define their expectations and they'll
be far more likely to sell themselves when you finally
explain your pricing at the end of the conversation.

POSITION YOURSELF AS AN EXPERT
Differentiate yourself from your competition by using your
articles to regularly provide insight and ideas to your
prospects and clients so they come to view you as an
expert in your field. Use expert positioning and consider
raising your prices.

When Arnold Schwarzenegger first arrived in the U.S. he
had trouble getting work as a stonemason with his funny
accent, despite charging less than his competitors. A friend
suggested he set his prices above the competition and bill
himself and his partner as exclusive European masons. His
business took off and look where he is now!

AVOID HOURLY FEES
Unless you sell hour-long massages, charging by the hour is
the best way to limit your earning potential. When you charge
by the hour you lose money if you work efficiently or if you
get a great idea right away. Prospects can always negotiate
with you on the number of hours they want, undermining
your ability to put in the time needed to meet their
expectations.

Prospects want results. Help them clarify the results they
want and then set a project fee for accomplishing those
results. Make sure your contract or letter of agreement
allows you to adjust your price if the project changes
mid-stream.

USE VALUE BASED PRICING
You can pay $30 or over $5,000 a night for a motel or hotel
room. Both provide a roof over your head, a bed and your
own bathroom, so why do some people pay over 150 times
more for one than the other?

People buy based on their perception of the value provided.
If they understand the value that your service or product
provides, they may be willing to pay much, much more than
you are currently charging. Look at the results you provide
for clients and reassess your pricing.

LEVERAGE YOUR TIME AND MONEY
Like most service professionals you have limited time and
money to spend on marketing. Much of your time is spent
delivering services. Is your marketing helping you earn
more? Do prospects understand the unique value you provide?
If not, take a look at the way you are positioning your firm
and adjust it to clarify your value to clients.

Are you making what you could be? If you apply even one or
two of the above strategies, you'll be making more money
than you are now without working any harder. You'll probably
still wish you had 30% more.
