"7 Surefire Ways to Get Leads for Your MLM Business"

After you join an MLM business, it's usually smooth sailing for
a few days or weeks. You have plenty of leads--well, you have
your family and friends--but those leads don't last forever. When
you've exhausted your list of leads, what do you do?

The lifeblood of your business is leads. If you don't have
interested prospects to email and call, then you don't have much
of a business. So the question is, how do you get leads beyond
your family and friends?

There are many network marketers out there who have more leads
than they know what to do with. They get to the point where they
don't have to look for leads at all--the leads come to them. How
are they able to pull this off? Let me tell you, it's not with
some simple conjuring trick. They use a variety of lead-pulling
techniques that anyone can use.

Here are a few of the top lead-getting techniques used by network
marketers:

1. Content - Put up a website that not only has information
about your business opportunity and products, but also features
content that people search for, such as articles, free tools,
business and marketing tips, etc. Many of the people who end up
in network marketing do so by accident. They didn't go searching
for an opportunity; one just sort of fell into their lap while
they were searching for useful information.

Just because people don't go searching for your opportunity
doesn't mean they aren't interested. If they come to your site
because they did a search for information on a certain topic, or
free marketing tools, what does it matter? They are still at your
site, where they will have to view information on your product or
opportunities, along with what they were actually looking for.

2. Dangle the Carrot - Once you've drawn visitors to your
site with free content, you have to get their information so you
can follow up. You've already led them this far; you just need to
dangle the carrot and lead them a little further. The carrot
could be a free report on email marketing, an e-course designed
to help them start their own business, or an e-book on how to
build a website. Make sure it pertains to the content they came
searching for. That way, since they wanted to see what your
content was, they will also want whatever freebie you have to
offer.

Here's the trick. They have to give you their contact info--at
least their name and email address--in order to get the freebies.
And as soon as you have that information, you have leads!

3. Create a Newsletter - The promise of helpful information
sent directly to you on a regular basis is a tempting offer for
most Internet users. So why not create your own? You don't even
have to write all the content. You can ask other authors if you
can use their articles, so you don't have to spend all your time
on the newsletter.

But sure to include information about your products or
opportunities in each issue, but don't display the ads too
prominently. Otherwise subscribers will think your newsletter is
just one big ad.

To get subscribers, use the methods above. Draw visitors to your
site with free content and then offer the free newsletter. Use
Topica.com or Yahoo Groups to send it out for free.

4. Buy Your Leads - One of the easiest ways to get leads is
to buy a leads list. Of course, this is also one of the most
expensive. But it works well if you have a good lead source. Ask
other network marketers who use this method to point out the best
sources for buying lists. Make sure the lists you're buying are
of people who have truly expressed an interest in getting
information. Otherwise, you'll be wasting your money because they
will delete your message without bothering to read it. What's
more, you could be accused of sending unsolicted email.

5. Offer an Email Course - You can turn yourself into an
instant MLM expert, as well as promote your opportunity, simply
by offering an email course via multiple autoresponders. If you
don't feel comfortable writing your own course, find a good
copywriter to do it for you. Make sure the course is not just a
bunch of sales letters. They have to contain information your
prospects really want. Pitch your products or opportunity briefly
at the end of each course letter, or mention it occasionally in
the body text.

6. Talk About It - Never pass up an opportunity to talk
about your business or products. I don't mean talking to people
while you're standing in line at the grocery store; you don't
want to annoy people. But there are plenty of other ways you can
talk about your business. For instance, you could give a
presentation on starting your own business to local groups or on
talk radio. The subject of your business is bound to come up, but
don't force it. Establish yourself as an expert by talking about
business and marketing related subjects, and when people find out
what you do, they'll automatically be interested. Save your MLM
pitch for private conversations with participants or prospects
who contact you later.

You may also find many opportunities to talk about your business
in chat rooms and on newsgroups. These are places where people
who want to talk will, so throw the subject out there and see who
responds.

7. Rank High - Use pay-per-click search engines to their maximum
potential. Choose keywords that will get you ranked high so you
can get people to your site. But don't just focus on keywords
about your business. Use keywords that will draw the people who
want to sign up for your newsletter or take advantage of the free
content on your site. Let your newsletter and content do the
selling.

Email marketing, if done correctly, is one of the most effective
network marketing tools available. Now I am not condoning "spam"
which is a practice widely used today. Spam is the sending of
information (usually an ad for a product, service or opportunity)
that the recipient did not request. Sending the same message to
thousands of people, whose addresses were either purchased from
someone or harvested from the Internet is frowned on by most
people and illegal in some States.

If you build your own email list and it contains people who have
done business with you in the past, that can be an extremely
effective marketing tool. Someone who has done business with you
in the past, is more likely to use you again if your product or
service was up to expectations.

With the ongoing wave of email viruses going around, people are
becoming more and more reluctant to open email from strangers.
If there is an attachment that could very well contain a virus.
The only attachments that are normally safe to open are text
files, i.e. ending with a "txt" extension, and images - "gif" -
"jpg". But be very sure that the extension does not end in vbs
such as - jpg.vbs. Malicious hackers might try to fool you into
thinking it is a safe file, but if it has a vbs extension, it
very well might not.

With that in mind, here are some highly effective methods to get
your advertisement read:

Don't use a phony email address that looks like gibberish or
appears to be coded such as 14sTTy@yourdomain.com - this is a
dead giveaway of spam and will be summarily deleted by most
people.

Don't use "URGENT" or "Re: Here's the information you
requested" as the subject if they didn't actually request
information from you. Many people use filters to automatically
put emails with these subjects in their "trash Bin".

Don't use an email address such as friend@anydomain.com or
addressed to friend@mydomain.com. I don't know about you, but I
don't know anyone with the name of "friend", and I don't know
anyone (nor care to) who calls me "friend".

Never require someone to write you via "snail mail" or call you
(long distance at their expense) to be removed from your list.
This will simply aggravate people who will pay no attention
whatsoever to your ad. Face it - someone who doesn't want to
receive email from you is not a potential customer, and continued
sending of email only aggravates them - the consequences
of this can be far reaching. You should also never send multiple
emails to the same person as that is also aggravating. This
happens most of the time with addresses that are harvested from
web sites without the owners permission.

Never begin your email with "Thank you for sending information on
your money making opportunity, now look at mine” or something
similar. People know right up front that this is a "come on" as
most of them who receive something like this are not in business.

If your email, has a statement that begins with "This email is
not spam..." or you have a statement that announces "Under Bill
1621 TITLE III passed by the Congress this letter cannot be
considered spam...", bingo in the trash bin it will go.

Never make promises that are outrageous, as most people are
smarter than that. If you had to buy a wheelbarrow to bring in
the twenty dollar bills from your mailbox as a result of your
business opportunity, why would you share the secret of how to
do it with anyone else?

So how can you use email marketing to your advantage in the
network marketing game? If you do, you will realize the benefits
of this very powerful tool. Build your own mailing lists and
advertise in newsletters and ezines. This will give you a
"targeted" market that will result in business. Spam will get you
very little in the way of business and could potentially get you into
difficulty - not worth the risk.

If you keep your product or service in front of your potential
clients on a regular basis, you will soon realize the fruits of
your effort. One of the best ways, surprisingly, is not to try
to sell them on your immediate offering. Get yourself a website
and keep the contents there informative and up to date. Use
email to let your customers know about the new additions, and
give them something interesting to read.

Once you get people accustomed to going to your site, the rest is
easy, and this "low key email marketing" will not only be your
best course of action, but will pay dividends.

One of the most effective ways to passively promote your
business is to create an email signature file. People don't
often put much thought into this powerful passive marketing
tool and therefore lose out on an opportunity to gain new
customers.

What is an email signature?

This is usually a few lines of text placed at the bottom of
an email message, forum or newsgroup that identifies you,
your company and your product or service.

How to create an email signature file

This should include your name, company or web site title,
your web site address, your phone number, email address or
other contact information and a short message advertising
your web site or business. Try to keep your signature file
to 6 lines maximum. ie

How to create your email signature file in Outlook Express

In Outlook Express, choose Tools-Options-Signatures-New and
write your email signature in the edit signature box. If
you want to create several email signatures in a notepad
file, then click the "File" radio button, and browse for
your signature file. This makes it easy to edit any of your
email signatures in notepad and upload the edited version
in Outlook Express.

Tips

Put a lot of thought into the creation of your
signature file so it matches the theme and personality of
your web site.

Create several signature files in notepad for different
products, services or occassions. You can then copy and
paste them into your email program.

Keep your signature file within 65 characters wide. This is
the maximum viewing width of most e-mail clients. If it's
wider than this it may "break" onto the next line, taking
up more space.

7 ways to market your email signature file

1. Outgoing email - include your email signature in every
email you send to your customers. This will remind them of
who they are doing business with and it will also help with
branding your business. Create 4 or 5 different email
signature files in notepad and save it in an easily
accessible folder on your computer. Use one for each
different product you are promoting.

2. HTML email - most email clients these days can receive
html email. This means you can liven up your email messages
by including, live links, graphics and even interactive
forms in your html email. Use the full web site address for
your images otherwise they won't render well in the
recipients email mail inbox ie

3. Graphical signatures - you can also create a graphical
image of your personal signature in your favorite graphics
software. To do this, write down your signature on paper
with a thick black pen. Scan it into your graphics software
and upload it to your server. When you insert the image
into your html email, use an absolute URL. An example of a
graphical signature is displayed at the bottom of this

4. Online forums - when relying to a post or creating a
post, create an interesting subject line that entices
visitors to read your post. Make it informative and of
value. Don't write an ad - it won't get opened and may even
get deleted by the forum moderators. Include your signature
file at the bottom of your post. Make sure it contains your
full web site address (so it's a live link) and include the
keywords in the link text that relates with the theme of
your web site. Doing this will increase the link popularity
of your web site (an important factor in your site's
rankings). Search engines regularly visit active forums and
message boards, thus spidering the link in your signature
file.

Tip: Make sure your signature file relates to the
information you are posting.

5. Articles - you can include a signature file at the end
of articles you write. Your article may be published by
100s of ezine publishers reaching 1000s of potential
subscribers. By including your web site address in the
resource box of your article, you will acquire many links
back to your web site thus automatically increasing your
site's link popularity.

6. Autoresponders - if you set up a sequential
autoresponder with several diferent messages, be sure to
include your email signature file following each message.
Include a quick advertisement or two for your products but
don't overdo it. The main purpose is to to remind them to
visit your web site.

You can also leave your email signature in ezine ads,
newsgroups, polls, surveys, guest books and feedback forms.
Include it in your confirmation emails as a result of
visitors filling out your forms.

7. Tracking - to optimize the effectiveness of your email
signature, you need to also track them. This will enable
you to find out which email signature works the best. When
using the full web site address in your signature file, you
can redirect it by tracking the full URL. The best way to
achieve this is by using ad tracking software (see
resources below). This allows you to keep track of any
number of URLs used in your email marketing campaigns.

Try to use your email signature file everyday in your
online marketing efforts. It doesn't take much effort, it
won't cost anything and can reap huge rewards.
