Instructions on Using Admin Functions on Classifieds Script By BECANADA

New in Version 3.1

Version 3.1 allows you to BLOCK up to 10 domains from posting at your free site.

We also have a micro upgrade for all free version users to allow unlimited blocks [website, email and keyword/phrases], including online control panel to admin these "blocks" AND an online interface to instantly admin the databases for each category too- click here to learn more about these upgrades.

To block up to 10 domains, upload "block.txt" file to the SAME folder where the classifieds.cgi file [you must be using 3.1 version]. Enter one website domain PER LINE - no spaces - up to 10 entries. Re-upload the "block.txt" to your server in ASCII mode. You may have to chmod it to 666. Now when people post ads, a check will be performed to BLOCK unwanted users.

As a reminder, please do not make any modifications to the CGI script that operates this site. Your classifieds site will cease to function, your data files will self-delete and you will be in direct violation of the copyrights that govern your FREE USAGE of this script - a script that has taken 100s of man hours to produce to HELP YOU MAKE MONEY with your website AT NO COST TO YOU. Becanada will actively pursue all unlawful modifications of the script and will reward those people that report illegal modifications.

Usage Guidelines:

You may install this script on one or more servers and/or in one or more directories on said servers. We do not limit this - however NO modification of the script is allowed in any way shape or form - we do not suggest exceeding 5 scripts per domain - unless you have a dedicated server. If you would like to make a suggestion for improvements, get permissions for modifications [and/or get a more advanced version], or report a bug in the software, please visit the BECANADA.COM website and use the email link provided there. Newer versions of this script will also be located at the email page, as well as common questions and answers.

Tech Notes:

Upon install of this script and running it for the first time, it will create a number of files in the directory it is install at. We suggest putting it in the CGI-BIN at your domain. Permissions on the CGI 'classifieds.cgi' script must be set to 755. The directory you place this script in may also require setting to 755 [to allow data file to be created and read and written to]. All data files and script will be in the same directory. You can only upload the CGI script "classifieds.cgi" via FTP [WS-FTP or CUTEFTP or similar program only] - DO NOT use FRONTPAGE. Also, you must upload in ASCII not binary... detailed info on install only will be contained in the README file that accompanies this script in the ZIP FILE.

Features of this Classifieds Script:

For features of this script go the the classifieds "homepage" ["return to classifieds"], and click on the INFO links under "Ad Readers", "Advertisers" and "Webmasters".

Webmasters Information for Admin functions:

Some setting MUST be set immediately upon running the script for the first time . These will be denoted by a "*". Failure to set these may result in certain parts of the script NOT working. Note, that a section of default categories will automatically install on the FIRST run of this program only.

IMPORTANT:

Your DEFAULT ADMIN password will be located in the README file, in the ZIP file you get when downloading the software.
IF you forget the ADMIN password, download the category.txt file where your classifieds.cgi file is and go to the EMAIL LINK at Becanada, for information on how to find your password. [see link above].

Add Category:

• This will add a category to your classifieds site.
• Enter the name of the data file on your server you want it to be called, the name of the category and the detailed description of the category.
• Enter your admin password, and click the button.

Edit/Delete Category:

• The will allow you to EDIT a current category or DELETE a category.
• Select the category you want to use, and enter your admin password.
• Click on EDIT to change the name of the category and/or description.
• Click on DELETE to delete the category. As a safeguard, if you delete a category by accident, you can re-add it , as the DATAFILE for this category will NOT be deleted when you delete the category.

Email Category:

• This will allow you to send an email to all people that have posted ads in the category you select.
• It will also allow you access online to the database of information on the people that have posted in this category.
• Select your category, enter your admin password and click EDIT.
• A new screen will be presented with options for you.

Modify/Deleting Ads:

• The delete ads function is located at the bottom of EACH category page.
• You can delete a single ad, purge all ads or delete only expired ads.
• You can also modify ads, including setting different expire dates.
• Select the the ad you want to delete/modify
• Enter your ADMIN password where required.
• Follow the onscreen instructions.

CONFIG section:

This section sets important variables that affect the entire site AND SCRIPT.

• * SENDMAIL setting: This setting the location on the server when SENDMAIL is located. This setting MUST BE SET correctly for all email functions to work [ad post email, ad expire email, email to a friend etc]. Default is : /usr/sbin/sendmail
• * Your Email address: This must be set, it will appear in all expire, ad posted and "send an email to a friend" emails - format MYEMAIL@MYSERVER.COM .
• * Your Name: This must be set, it will appear in all expire, ad posted and "send an email to a friend" emails - format FIRST NAME LAST NAME.

Site Config Values:

This will determine how your site looks, and set certain functions either on or off.

• * Homepage URL: This is the URL [example: http://www.becanada.com ] , that will be linked at the BOTTOM of every page.
  Important NOTE: The PAGE this links to, should have a link BACK to the classifieds site.
• * Your Classifieds Name: This will be the name of your site, listed at the top of every page.
• Number of Ads To Show at once [0 = show all]: When a viewer goes to a category, this will be the number of ads listed at one time.
• Maximum Ads allowed per database [0=manual delete only]: This is the maximum number of ads allowed at one time in EACH category database.
• Color Scheme for Site [Example value #ffffff or white]: This is the background color used for the headers, ads, and information bar on the main page.
• Links Colors [Example value #ffffff or white]: This is the links color used for the headers, ads, and information bar on the main page.
• Text Color [Example value #ffffff or white]: This is the text color used for the headers, ads, and information bar on the main page.
• Background Color [Example value #ffffff or white]: This is the background color on your screen used for the headers, ads, and information bar on the main page.
• Image For Background: This is the image address used for the BACKGROUND on every page. IE http://www.myserver.com/background.gif
• Image for TOP AD: This is the image address used for the TOP banner on every page. IE http://www.myserver.com/banner.gif
• Image Link for TOP AD: This is the actual link used by the TOP BANNER IMAGE on every page, that click on the banner links to. IE: http://www.myserver.com/bannerlink.html
• *Optional - Paid Url [leave link blank for none]: This is a special link that should lead to an orderform to pay for paid ads/provide prices for paid ads. Upon receiving payment, you can go to EDIT/DELETE ADS and change the setting for EXPIRE of the ad. IE: http://www.myserver.com/order.html
• Time Period Between Ads Rotation: This sets the time period that rotates the ads continuously.
• NEW! Activate "Best-Host" Link - this will activate [checked] or de-activate [uncheck it] a link to earn commissions [15-25%] on all hosting you sell from your site. This is only on version 1.2  and above of the classifieds script - which you can download free. If you have an older verison, simply download the new zip file and upload the classifieds.cgi script - it will NOT affect your settings, or categories.

NEW IN VERSION 2.0

• NEW - Version 2.0! Activate "Power Submitter" Link - this will activate [checked] or de-activate [uncheck it] a link to earn commissions [25%] on all sales you sell from your site. This is only on version 2  and above of the classifieds script - which you can download free. If you have an older verison, simply download the new zip file and upload the classifieds.cgi script - it will NOT affect your settings, or categories.
• Banner Rotator
  this special rotator will allow you rotate text, html, banners, links and more... just copy in your HTML and use the DELIMITED characters to indicate end point of each code "section". This rotator will automatically rotate thru each "code block" and then repeat.
• Spamable / NON spamable
  If you enable this link you will allow automated submissions software to be able to post ads at your site. Just check it to disallow this.

Email Advertising:

This section set the ads that go out in each email and if you receive a COPY of new ads posted.
It is important you TEST these [especially the ads] to make sure the ads are where you want them.
Do a new ad post, with a short expire period [10 minutes!]

• * Email Copy of all NEW Ads to [leave blank for no copy]: enter the email address here if you want to RECEIVE a copy via email of all new ads posted. Example: Myemail@myserver.com
• * Top Message in Ad Posted Email: These two lines will be in the TOP of every "new ad posted" email confirmation sent out.
  New in Version 2 - You can now have an unlimited amount of text and you can send in HTML or text.
• * Bottom Message in Ad Posted Email: These two lines will be in the bottom of every "new ad posted" email confirmation sent out.
  New in Version 2 - You can now have an unlimited amount of text and you can send in HTML or text.
• * Top Message in Ad Expired & "Send Ad To A Friend" Email: These two lines will be in the TOP of every Ad Expired & "Send Ad To A Friend" Email email confirmation sent out.
  New in Version 2 - You can now have an unlimited amount of text and you can send in HTML or text.
• * Bottom Message in Ad Expired & "Send Ad To A Friend" Email: These two lines will be in the bottom of every Ad Expired & "Send Ad To A Friend" Email email confirmation sent out.

To CONFIRM settings in your CONFIG SETTINGS, enter your admin password and click the button.
