This issue we have a selection of top articles about advertising.
Specifically about the differences between using ad copy with
pay per click model VS non pay per click model.
On one hand with the PPC model; you want to attract the correct
audience to your website ; but not the curious or "tirekicker"
so to speak. The reasoning is simply cost. You can get 1000s
of visitors in only a short period of time and make ZERO sales
which could ending up costing you $100s of dollars of your
advertising budget... all because you used an ad that did
not "filter" the audience correctly. A costly mistake I have
made a number of times - thinking carefully followed by
LOTS of testing and tracking results is key.
The other advertising model involves any method of receiving
traffic to your website that DOES not incur a cost per
visitor - as in pay per click. In this model you want to
ENCOURAGE everyone you can to visit your website. In other words
you want to go out of your way to ensure those with even
the slightest interest in your website / business / product
click on your ad. Like PPC advertising, tracking and
testing your ads are key here.
Regardless of the method used to get traffic to your website
make certain you can track every click / sale. There is no
room for guesswork when you are paying for advertising online
these days...
And make really certain you have a number of methods to capture that
persons email address / name in some way - especially if
you are using paid advertising of any kind. This is the only
sure way to leverage your advertising dollars AND convert
the maximum number of visitors into dollars long term.

Classified ads are everywhere!
You see them when you read your favorite ezine.
You see them on all the search engines in the form of
pay per click ads like Google AdWords.
And you see them on blogs and forums too!
The reason you see so many classified ads in ezines, on
web sites and other places is simple.
They work!
Classified advertising is one of the most cost
effective forms of advertising on the Net today. Like
most things that seem very simple on the surface, a
great deal of work goes in to writing a powerful
classified ad.
If you want to add power to your classified ads,
carefully consider the following four step process.
Writing a great ad is hard. This is not "sit down for 5
minutes and punch it out" work. When a professional
writer creates a classified ad for a client, it's not
unusual for the writer to produce 15 or even 20
variations in order to get the best possible ad.
So grab the beverage of your choice, loosen up those
typing fingers and let's create a money making
classified.
The three parts of a great classified ad are ...
* The Headline
* The Body
* The Call to Action
IMPORTANT: Each one has only ONE purpose.
* The purpose of the headline is to sell the ad.
* The purpose of the ad is to set up the call to
action.
* The purpose of the call to action is to sell the click.
If you keep this in mind as you write, you will see how
easy it becomes to cause readers to take the action you
want.
=======> The Headline
Your headline must grab attention! The headline's job
is to sell the ad.
Some people use sensational headlines with no
relationship to their offer to grab attention. That
approach may work in the short term, but damages your
integrity in the long run. Honesty is always the best
policy. The last thing you want is disappointment when
someone arrives at your website.
Keep these ideas in mind when you write your headline.
* Begin each sentence with an action word.
* Create curiosity.
* Ask a question.
HOT TIP: If the publication you are placing your ad in
doesn't allow headlines, use the first few words as the
headline or indent the ad so it stands out.
When writing headlines, always remember that people
care about exactly one thing; what's in it for me?
=======> The Body
The body of the ad must tell your reader what's in it
for them. What *benefit* will they get by making that
click?
People don't want to 'learn more' out of idle
curiosity. They want to learn more in order to get to
the *benefits* you promised them, so don't be shy about
what your offer will do for them.
The first step to writing the body is to list all the
features of your product or service then, next to them,
list the benefits of those features. You must write at
least one benefit for each feature, or don't use that
feature. People buy what your product or service will
do for *them*, not only what it will do.
=======> The Call to Action
The call to action is the action you want the reader to
take. While it is often as simple as "click here" it's
wise to pay careful attention to this step.
What to say here depends on if you are sending them to
a web site, an autoresponder or some other way to get
more information. If it's a website, be sure to include
urgency. You must lure them away from what they are
doing now in order to visit your site.
If you are using an autoresponder, tell the reader what
to expect. Will they get one email, a five part series,
or something else? The more they know, the more likely
they will be to click through.
=======> What's Next?
One last step and you're ready to begin making money.
Don't forget to read your ad! Classifieds aren't
supposed to read like a novel. Check that spelling too!
Once you have your dollar grabbing, profit pulling
classified written, don't forget the #1 rule in
advertising.
TEST YOUR AD
Test, test and test again to know what works. Testing
allows you to spend small money now to make big money
later.
By following these steps you will begin to create
classifieds that work. Once you have an ad that works,
use it everywhere you can afford to and you will rake
in the profits!

As the free search engines become increasingly competitive,
not to mention complex, pay-per-click ("PPC") advertising
can be ideal for the small business operating in a niche
market.
Study the workings of the PPC search engines and you'll bo
on a fast-track to success. Conversely, poor knowledge can
put your business on the slippery slope to ruin. Listen to
me carefully now! Learn how to operate PPC search engines
and you will have a great advantage over your competition.
Advertising on the PPC search engines can be a bit like
attending an auction where you can bid for the top ranked
positions on the keywords of your choosing. Every time a
visitor reaches your website by clicking on your advert at
that search engine you pay the value of your bid. Bid
values typically start at five cents but can be several
dollars for certain highly-competitive keywords.
Let's consider the advantages and disadvantages of PPC
advertising. First some advantages -
1. You don't pay unless someone clicks on your advert.
2. PPC advertising can be a cheap way to attract targeted
traffic.
3. Anyone can get the top advertising spot if they outbid
the competition.
4. Some PPC search engines enable a campaign to be up and
away in minutes. Not very long after you could be taking
orders.
5. If your advert is not successful you can cancel or amend
your listing with immediate effect.
6. Adverts can be tested and amended very quickly and very
simply.
Unfortunately there are some disadvantages we have to
discuss too -
1. Not everyone who clicks on your advert is a potential
customer. You will have to pay for these junk clicks though.
2. You can get into bidding wars with your competition for
those prime spots, thus forcing up the cost per click.
3. Certain PPC search engines insist on rigorous approval
procedures. These can be time consuming and frustrating if
the advert they approve is not to your liking.
4. A poorly worded or, even worse, misleading advert could
generate traffic but not make sales. Unless you've placed a
restriction on your advertising budget, your business could
quickly be on the road to insolvency.
So how do you start with PPC advertising? First you need to
establish which keywords your potential customers are
searching on. No point in bidding for traffic on an
inappropriate keyword. There are many ways of doing this
research, unfortunately it is way beyond the scope of this
article. But this is an important step that shouldn't be
missed and I'll be covering it more fully in a future
article.
Before you can contemplate making a bid on the keywords
you've established it is vital that you know the monetary
value of a visitor to your site. That is you must be able
to calculate on average how much revenue each visitor
generates. Simple math will then tell you how far you can
go in the bidding process.
If you want to use PPC advertising to test your sales copy
on a new site with no visitor knowledge, then monitor your
costs versus sales closely. A daily budget is advisable at
the outset. Limit your spending to something you can afford
to lose if the worst occurs and you don't make any sales.
Raise this as appropriate once you can see the sales
conversion rate.
You're just about ready to dip your toe in the water. I've
simply given you an outline here and this is only my
interpretation of PPC advertising, which I suggest you use
as a stepping stone to finding out more for yourself.

AdSense allows website publishers to display contextually
relevant advertisements on their website. If a web visitor
"clicks" on an advertisement, the web publisher will earn a
percentage of the advertising revenue generated as a result
of the click. Many webmasters have built content websites
around the Google AdSense model. In many cases the specific
intent of the webmaster is to profit from Google AdSense
Other webmasters use Google AdSense to supplement their
revenue. Regardless of the webmaster's intent, the following
tips will help webmasters looking to profit from AdSense.
Top AdSense Tips:
1. Niche Sites.
Targeted niche sites that have a clear theme, tend to
generate more advertising revenue simply because it is
easier to achieve decent search engine placement. Be warned
though, you want to chose a niche where there is a
sufficient number of advertisements available.
2. Target Keywords.
When determining the sites focus, consider how much the
advertisers pay for the advertisements. If the site is
focused on ringtones, like Ringtone Central
http://www.ringtones-central.com the payout per click is
going to be very small, as ringtones are not high ticket
items, advertisers will not spend a lot on pay per click
advertisements. With less obvious markets use Overture to
determine how much advertisers pay per keyword, it is
usually similar on Google. Search Overture for a keyword
then click "View Advertisers' Max Bids" in the top right
corner. This will show the Overture inventory and how much
is paid per keyword. Because the market has become very
competitive, it will be difficult to rank well in search
engines with a new website that is optimized for the terms
that have the highest payout. Consider targeting terms that
are moderately priced.
3. Aged Sites / Time.
Over time as a website is spidered by Google, advertisements
will generally increase in relevance. In general, older
websites will rank better in search engines. The closer the
advertisements relate to the webpage's content; the higher
the "click-through" the publishers will see.
4. Coding.
In order to minimize a websites maintenance place the Google
generated AdSense code in the website template or an include
file. This will allow you to easily experiment with
different advertisement sizes and ad placement, and keep the
web maintenance to a minimum.
5. Tracking Channels.
In order to know how effective a specific website or ad
placement is use distinct channels and subchannels within
Google. This will allow you to discern what performs best on
a specific website. Using channels will tell you what sites
are making money, what advertisements are making money and
what ad position is the most profitable on a specific
website. Keep in mind that you should run an advertisement
for a full week, in order to properly test its
effectiveness, different days of the week will vary the web
traffic so comparing one week to another will give the most
accurate reflection of how effective a campaign performs.
When testing different advertisement sizes, placement or
color schemes be sure to leave campaigns in place for one
week, different days will often result in web traffic
fluctuations. Comparing web traffic, week to week will give
a clear indication of what ad formats perform the best.
6. Integrated Ad Placement.
Many webmasters have been successful at integrating
advertisements into a website. The easiest way to integrate
an advertisement into a website is to remove the
advertisement border. This will allow the ads to better
blend with the webpage. Google recommends contrasting the
link colors with the website colors to increase
click-throughs. It is also suggested that webmasters
randomize the color of the advertisements, so that frequent
users will not naturally "filter" the ads.

7. Number vs Value of Advertisements.
Up to three advertisements can be listed on each page. This
decreases the value of the advertisements served, so
publishers should cautiously add advertisement units, as it
dilutes ad inventory. In other words you want to serve the
most expensive ads at all times.
8. Hot Spots.
Like web copy above the fold holds true with AdSense as
well. This means that advertisements that appear without
having to scroll will be read more frequently. Hot Spots are
areas on a web page that result in a higher percentage of
click-throughs. According to Google the highest paying
advertisements are located on the hot spots.

Google does not indicate if image advertisements or text ads
perform better, so webmasters are encouraged to experiment
with both.
9. Highest performing Ad Sizes.
According to Google the 336 x 280 rectangle, the 300 x250
rectangle and the 160 x 600 sky scraper result in the
highest number of click-throughs. Depending on the website's
design and layout, publishers may experience different
results with different ad sizes, placements and color
schemes. Expirement and track the results for each website
to maximize the AdSense payout.

Your marketing could be pulling in clients and profits like a
magnet. Think about how many people could benefit from your
products and services. Even if only a fraction of them bought
from you, you'd be amazingly successful.
It doesn't matter if the economy is headed up or down, there are
plenty of people looking to spend money to solve their problems
and meet their needs. People are happy to spend money on things
they want, whether it's a five thousand dollar painting,
five-dollar cup of coffee, a golf lesson, a new computer or a
new web site.
With all these prospects searching for products and services to
buy, how can you attract more of them and increase your
profits?
Makes sense that the best way to get people to spend money is to
give them what they want. But, and here's the amazing thing,
most small businesses don't market to what their prospects want.
Too much small business marketing is about the business owner
and what he or she wants, not what the client wants.
Typically, ads or web site pages begin with;
- The name of the business
- A picture of the product, the owner, or the company's
headquarters
- A list of product names
- A company history
- Company hours and contact information
Many small business owners use this format because they see
everyone else doing it. While it may be the most common
approach, it's usually the least effective.
When a prospect views an ad or a website that doesn't speak to
their needs, they ignore it. Even if the prospect wants the
product or service you're selling, chances are they won't
respond. They've got too many choices of similar ads from
competitors and will end up just choosing the last one they
looked at. To stand out from your competition, get a response to
your marketing and increase your s.ales and profits, you need to
take a different approach.
To get attention and grow your business, you need to focus your
marketing on what your prospects want, then once you've got
their attention you can work on building a mutually profitable
relationship.
Give Your Prospects a Reason to Buy
Your prospects are out there searching for your products and
services but they're doing so as fast as they can surf the net,
flip the pages of a magazine, sort their mail or scan the yellow
pages. Give them a reason to stop and read your ad, s.ales
letter or web site. "Welcome" or a company name or simply
naming your product won't grab their attention.
Tell your prospects how you are going to help them. Tell them
how they'll benefit from your products or services. You want
this information to jump out at prospects when they see your
materials.
You may be thinking, "How can this work, when every large
corporation in the U.S. features its brand name in their ads?
Every magazine I read is full of these brand-focused ads."
Focusing on a brand or company name is important for
multinationals like Coke or Nike, but keep in mind that these
companies spend hundreds of millions of dollars each year
building brand awareness and maintaining their brand image in
every media and every market. Without a hefty advertising
budget, this approach won't work for you.
Give your prospects a reason to stop what they are doing and
read your ad or your web page. Give them a reason to read the
first paragraph, then the second, and lead them to contact you
and buy from you.

Their Christmas catalogue is a great example of giving prospects
a reason to buy. They identified a problem that plagues their
customers at Christmas time; figuring out which gifts to give
friends and family.
REI speaks to that need on the front cover of the catalog with
a great photo of a woman and a man climbing a snow covered
mountain and a single line of text; "We'll help you find great
gifts for everyone on your list."
Inside, below each product photo, they've listed the product
benefit; "Keep him toasty even in winter's worst"; or "Built for
deep snow and bitter cold"; or "Keep kids happy on hikes with
their own hydration". Below that is the description of the
product. Finally, below that, you'll find the name and price of
the product.
Getting your prospects' interest and their business is simply
about helping them get what they want. The first step is to give
them the information they want. Your next step is
relationship-building, helping your prospects get to know your
business and to trust you.
